ENSURING UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES ARE ACCURATELY PORTRAYED





We live in a world of policies. While many believe that the legal guidelines have helped bring structure to our world, the reality is policies, especially in regards to history and social science preservation, were intentionally created to exclude different ethnicities and cultures from cementing their stories and accomplishments within the public record.


Since 2020 CULTURPHORIUM, INC. has worked to uncover and promote stories of underrepresented communities that have not been told in the mainstream education or cultural resources sectors due to financial and social capital demands.


To ensure the future preservation of these communities CULTURPHORIUM is providing education on grant funding opportunities to aide individuals from underrepresented communities in preserving tangible and intangible components of their culture.



RESEARCH TO NONPROFIT





CULTURPHORIUM, INC. was created from the Masters Research project of its founder & CEO: Me'Lisa James, M.Ed, who served as a secondary Social Science teacher in Solano, Yolo, & Sacramento counties. During This time she found a common thread among all students:
  1. They were unable to locate different countries on a map.
  2. They did not think Social Science was relevant to life.

To address this skills deficit Me'Lisa seached for methods that would engage and connect students to content.


Her core methods came from studying several Education theories:

  1. Coyote Theory by the Apache tribe interpreted by Jon Young
  2. Youth Historians of Harlem by Barry Goldenberg
  3. Geographies of American Popular Music by Stephen McClain
